A.R. Rahman has done a service without making any publicity. Film circles are buzzing about this help done by Rahman. There is a society formed amongst the Tamil Film Cinema circle. It is a very old society. When it was started, all musicians from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, andhra were members of it. At one stage, it got disintegrated, and people from other states other than Tamilnadu got separated. And so, only musicians from Tamil Nadu stayed in the end.

There were people who had Music Knowledge and experience, but as people became old, the society couldnt function as before, and slowly stopped functioning. All the musicians also became debt ridden.

Amongst those musicians, 100 people above 50 years were selected, Rahman had given them Rs 25,000 each. By doing this, Rahman has not only supported the musicians, but also music. When asked some musicians, they replied , " Without His permission, we cannot give a public interview on this, which would be like tarnishing the service done by Rahman". Thus saying they stopped giving the interview.

When contacted the Chennai Light Musicians Leader Raghuraj chakravarthy, he said , " Senior Musicians, that too people who have dedicated themselves for music have been suffering in life. Knowing this, and being unable to bear this pain, He has supported them, which is a very proud effort. We could have arranged a very big function for this. But, if we would have done like that, the very purpose of he doing this would not have been served. He has done this without any propaganda which is a very big deed".

" Rahman felt very bad, when he heard about about these musicians, who have been hit badly in their lives. He wanted to help them in some way or the other. So, he decided to initially assist 100 people, ( people who are old enough), and thus putting faith on his close associate he dediced the list of people to be helped. He drew a cheque of Rs 25,000 /- on each and every person out of that 100 list. He called the people concerned and distributed to them. He had done this so that the monies will reach the right people, at the right time, with the right amount. He had clearly told them, not to publicise this, and had even requested about this.

The Highlight of this topic is the humble nature of ARR, and his attitude of not creating any sort of publicity for doing such a wonderful act. This is really a quality to be adored, respected and imbibed for any true Rahmaniac.

Apophis: The Asteroid That Could Smash Into The Earth on Friday, April 13th, 2036

Apophis is an asteroid with an slightly offset orbit to that of Earth's. Discovered in June 2004, astronomers have determined that it will make a very close flyby on April 13th, 2029, where it will pass to within 5 Earth diameters of us. The exact path the asteroid follows on its flyby in 2029 will determine whether it smashes into the Earth seven years later.

In 2004, it was first thought that the asteroid would hit us in the first flyby in 2029. The initial calculation for the orbit was made using only two sets of observations, those made in June and a subsequent set made in December.

From those observations, astronomers calculated a 1-in-200 chance that the asteroid would hit the Earth. If this was true, then this asteroid had become the most dangerous asteroid ever found. After taking more observations , the chances climbed even higher and by the end of December 2004, the chances of the Earth being struck by this asteroid climbed as high as 1-in-37.

Normally, when more observations are taken the chances of this kind of collision decrease. Not so here, it seemed like this thing was really going to hit us.

Luckily, some other observations from other sources were located and they allowed astronomers to calculate a more precise orbit. From those images they were able to conclude that there was no way that Apophis was going to hit the Earth. Whew!

I was looking to try out something new in my kitchen so searched for some good recipe sites on the net.I came across this cool recipe site called foodconnect.com which houses good recipes.This is the neatest site! It has much more than just recipes.If you do the free sign up you get access to all these features. There are a lot of recipes, my favorite was the crispy honey wings, I cannot wait to try them, I mean, seriously they have the words crispy and honey in the name! You can add the recipe to your favorites or to your shopping list.I really liked the shopping list part. I could just add a bunch of recipes and it would make the list for me! I do wish there was a way to remove individual ingredients or add different ones because I'm not going to be buying that feta cheese!My favorite feature was the event planning section. How could a mosquito fly in mid air in a moving bus?

acceleration or deceleration.
The reason why a mosquito can fly inside a moving bus is, that you have a closed
system. Everything in this bus is moving at the same speed including the air,
every single molecule. This means all air molecules move with the same speed as
the bus. So a mosquito flying inside the bus only has to deal with movements
relative to the surrounding air inside the bus.

During acceleration or deceleration this is much more difficult. The mosquito
probably would not be able to stay on its course - similarly to a passenger in a
train, who tries to stand still while the train starts moving or while it is
stopping.

Also things change dramatically if the bus becomes an open system. Take out the
front windshield and your mosquito will not fly anymore.

By the way, we also can see our earth as the bus we are all sitting in. Earth has
a distance from the sun of about 150 million kilometers and moves around the sun
within one year. To do so the earth must have an average speed of more than
100000 kilometers per hour (76000 miles per hour). Still we can walk, drive, sit
.... because we experience our earth as closed reference system.

Rahman composes airport song for Hyderabad

The new airport in Hyderabad at Shamshabad will have a song of its own, like most corporate companies do these days.

So, GMR has roped in the likes of AR Rahman and Prasoon Joshi to do the honours. While Prasoon has penned the lyrics, Rahman’s tunes will welcome the guests from March 16 onwards.

It’s well known that Rahman started his career by composing music for jingles. His unique tune for the advertisements like Leo Cofee and Airtel has been very popular among the music lovers.

Kanthsamy latest update

The shooting of ‘Kanthaswamy’ turned out to be a sensational event with milk leaking from a Neem tree in the shooting spot today (Feb 25).

The shooting was held in Film City from early morning six o clock. When the unit was about to shoot a scene, they saw a wonderful sight in the nearby tree. Milk started to pour from the tree as if there was a spring of milk within the tree.

Hero Vikram, heroine Shriya, director Susi Ganesan, and others were stunned to see the unbelievable scene. The local people, who heard the news, gathered in large numbers and some of them started worshiping the tree treating it as goddess Amman.

The incident and the resultant sensation caused a delay in the shooting, which went on smoothly after a while.

The unit would soon leave to Mexico after taking a few scenes in Chennai. The mega budget film (around 40 crores), produced by Kalaipuli Thanu, is expected to be a summer release.

Arsenal's Eduardo moved to London hospital

Arsenal striker Eduardo de Silva has been transferred to an unnamed London hospital to undergo further treatment on the broken leg he suffered in yesterday's Premier League match at Birmingham City.
Eduardo, the Croatia striker, last night underwent surgery at Birmingham's Selly Oak Hospital on the double compound fracture of his left leg inflicted by a tackle by Martin Taylor in the opening minutes of the 2-2 draw at St Andrews.
Immediate reaction to the injury suggested the Brazilian-born Eduardo's career was in jeopardy. At the very least he will miss the rest of the season and this summer's European Championships.

Taylor was sent-off for the third-minute challenge which saw play held up for seven minutes while medics treated the striker. The incident was deemed too disturbing for viewers by Sky television so that replays were not shown during live coverage of the match. Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger was so incensed by the tackle that he called for Birmingham defender Taylor to be banned from football for life, although he later retracted his initial thoughts.

Wenger said: "On reflection, I feel that my comments about Martin Taylor were excessive. I said what I did immediately after the game in the heat of the moment. It was a highly emotional afternoon and we were all shocked by the injury to Eduardo." The Arsenal coach's original allegations, however, were such that even Birmingham felt the need to issue their own statement to defend their own player. "The club are saddened that such a fantastic game of football has been marred by a serious injury sustained to Arsenal player Eduardo. But Martin Taylor is adamant there was no malicious intent," the statement read.
Croatia, meanwhile, are coming to terms with losing their star player for the upcoming Euro 2008 finals. Eduardo played a key role in ensuring Croatia's progress to this summer's championships and finished the qualifying campaign with 10 goals in 12 matches - the second-best goalscorer of the competition behind Northern Ireland's David Healy.

The injury has come as a huge blow to coach Slaven Bilic. However, the former West Ham player has said there are more important matters to be concerned with. He said: "This is horrible. The super-charged grandmother whose touch blows up kettles

For Mavis Price, however, it is fraught with danger - because she can blow up kettles just by touching them.

The 60- year- old grandmother seems to have a freakishly high level of static electricity coursing through her body.

She estimates she has destroyed 15 kettles in the last few years. Housework has also become a problem, with 20 irons and ten vacuum cleaners biting the dust after falling foul of her apparently supercharged touch.

And her friends and family are often left with their hair standing on end after touching her.

Mrs Price says her bizarre condition also means she cannot keep a computer in her house because they go berserk at the brush of her hand.

"I am just an electrifying person really, who seems to build up an unusual amount of static," she said. "People have suggested going to the doctor, but I don't know what they would be able to do.

"It is all a bit mind-boggling really. No one has ever been able to offer me an explanation to why this happens to me. I seem to carry far more electricity than normal people.

"People can often get electric shocks just by standing next to me. My grandson sometimes tells me off for holding his hand, because he gets a short, sharp shock from me.

"It doesn't just happen at my house either. When I go to my daughter's house, the television crackles as I walk past it and people's hair stands on end by touching me or standing next to me.

"I think the only option might be to wear a diving suit, rubber gloves and wellingtons."

Widow Mrs Price says her unusual experiences began more than 50 years ago and she has been causing havoc ever since.

The retired community development worker, from Telford, Shropshire, added: "I first noticed it back in the 1950s when I plugged in a television set and ended up blowing up the television and flying across the room.

"Since then, I have spent thousands of pounds on new household goods every few months. When I take them back to the shop to try and explain, I always get told they have stopped working due to wear and tear. But how can a kettle stop working after just a few months? It's ridiculous.

"I had a really bad day last week where I got up, turned the light on, and managed to blow the fuse. Then I went to the supermarket and broke the checkout.

"They had to close the checkout down and said nothing like it had ever happened before.

"Just when I thought things couldn't get any worse I went to get some photographs printed and managed to completely freeze the whole machine."

Mrs Price said her electro-curse can create such mayhem that she was once unable to finish a training course.

"I went on an IT course, but it was a nightmare because every time I touched the computer it would either freeze or shut down.

"The technician had to constantly come over to my machine to see what was wrong and he was completely baffled."

We show that disk encryption, the standard approach to protecting sensitive data on laptops, can be defeated by relatively simple methods. We demonstrate our methods by using them to defeat three popular disk encryption products: BitLocker, which comes with Windows Vista; FileVault, which comes with MacOS X; and dm-crypt, which is used with Linux. The research team includes J. Alex Halderman, Seth D. Schoen, Nadia Heninger, William Clarkson, William Paul, Joseph A. Calandrino, Ariel J. Feldman, Jacob Appelbaum, and Edward W. Felten.

The root of the problem lies in an unexpected property of today’s DRAM memories. DRAMs are the main memory chips used to store data while the system is running. Virtually everybody, including experts, will tell you that DRAM contents are lost when you turn off the power. But this isn’t so. Our research shows that data in DRAM actually fades out gradually over a period of seconds to minutes, enabling an attacker to read the full contents of memory by cutting power and then rebooting into a malicious operating system.

Interestingly, if you cool the DRAM chips, for example by spraying inverted cans of “canned air” dusting spray on them, the chips will retain their contents for much longer. At these temperatures (around -50 °C) you can remove the chips from the computer and let them sit on the table for ten minutes or more, without appreciable loss of data. Cool the chips in liquid nitrogen (-196 °C) and they hold their state for hours at least, without any power. Just put the chips back into a machine and you can read out their contents.

This is deadly for disk encryption products because they rely on keeping master decryption keys in DRAM. This was thought to be safe because the operating system would keep any malicious programs from accessing the keys in memory, and there was no way to get rid of the operating system without cutting power to the machine, which “everybody knew” would cause the keys to be erased.

Our results show that an attacker can cut power to the computer, then power it back up and boot a malicious operating system (from, say, a thumb drive) that copies the contents of memory. Having done that, the attacker can search through the captured memory contents, find any crypto keys that might be there, and use them to start decrypting hard disk contents. We show very effective methods for finding and extracting keys from memory, even if the contents of memory have faded somewhat (i.e., even if some bits of memory were flipped during the power-off interval). If the attacker is worried that memory will fade too quickly, he can chill the DRAM chips before cutting power.

There seems to be no easy fix for these problems. Fundamentally, disk encryption programs now have nowhere safe to store their keys. Today’s Trusted Computing hardware does not seem to help; for example, we can defeat BitLocker despite its use of a Trusted Platform Module.

That sounds amazing doesn't it.I've read about forcing into the DRAM to find such data using software,but this altogether takes a different perspective on hacking,something which I'm fairly sure,it totally novel.Let's hope there is an easy fix for this.

To the surprise of everyone, the actress appeared in a Salwar Kameez and dupatta for the next episode of Manada Mayilada on Kalaignar TV. When quizzed about it the actress said that it is designer Tarun Tahiliani creation and she is glad that people noticed it and she will be appearing in Saree for the final round of the dance show. She further added that even though she wears short dresses she does not have plunging necklines.

Hmmm…intresting. Does it mean the other actress discussed in the assembly wore short dress with pluging neckline?

Kuruvi update

Kuruvi is in its final leg and is progressing in and around Tamil Nadu gearing up for a possible mid-April release. The crew, including Vijay and director Dharani, is stationed in Salem for the shoots. It is learnt that Vijay will extend his trip to Erode after the shoots for the social welfare activities planned by the Erode wing of his fan club.

The events, planned in the evening of February 24, 2008 at 5.00 p.m. at the CST School grounds will also be attended by Minister of Handloom and Textiles NKKP Raja, MLA Palanichamy, and Erode Mayor Murugesan. Activities planned during the course of the event include distribution of computers to Government schools and tricycles to physically challenged students.

Prior to the event, Vijay will garland the Periyar statue located in Erode. Director and Vijay’s father S.A. Chandrasekhar is also expected to attend the event.

US shoots down toxic satellite

A MISSILE fired from a US Navy warship has hit a dying spy satellite 247km above the Pacific Ocean but it is not yet known whether the strike has nullified the threat of a toxic fuel landing in a populated area, the Pentagon says.

Australia is one of the countries that has been placed on alert because of the risk.

The SM-3 missile was fired from the USS Lake Erie in the Pacific at about 10.26 EST (2.26pm AEDT) and scored a direct hit on the bus-sized satellite, the Pentagon said.

The US Department of Defence (DoD) officially confirmed that the operation was a “success”.

“A network of land, air, sea and spaced-based sensors confirms that the U.S. military intercepted a non-functioning National Reconnaissance Office satellite which was in its final orbits before entering the earth's atmosphere,” the DoD said.

But the DoD said it would be some time before it was known if the toxic fuel would reach earth.

“The objective was to rupture the fuel tank to dissipate the approximately 1,000 pounds (453 kg) of hydrazine, a hazardous fuel which could pose a danger to people on earth, before it entered into earth's atmosphere.

“Confirmation that the fuel tank has been fragmented should be available within 24 hours.”

The DoD also said debris had already begun to enter the earth’s atmosphere, although most of it would burn up within 48 hours.

A defence official told the Associated Press that an initial view of the missile strike indicated it probably hit the fuel tank.

The Pentagon said last week that US President George W. Bush had decided the navy should try to shoot down the satellite because its tank of hazardous hydrazine could leak if it enters the atmosphere and reaches Earth.

Russia and China have expressed concern about the operation. The Russian Defence Ministry said it could be used as cover to test a new space weapon.

Washington has insisted the operation is purely to prevent people being harmed by the satellite's fuel load.

Besides a good star cast and soulful music, Jodhaa-Akbar has much more to offer. Set in the sixteenth century, JODHAA AKBAR is a love story about a marriage of alliance that gave birth to true love between a great Mughal emperor, Akbar, and a Rajput princess, Jodhaa. Little did Akbar [Hrithik Roshan] know that when he married Jodhaa [Aishwarya Rai Bachchan], he would be embarking upon a new journey -- the journey of true love.

The daughter of King Bharmal of Amer [Kulbhushan Kharbanda], Jodhaa resented being reduced to a mere political pawn in this marriage of alliance, and Akbar's biggest challenge now did not merely lie in winning battles, but in winning the love of this defiant princess.

Firstly Jodhaa –Akbar isn’t too complex a film to understand, the script and screenplay is simple and above all the language is simple with a mix of Hindi and Urdu.

The characters in the film are so real and leave a heavy impact on you. Only a visionary such as Ashutosh Gowarikar can dare to do such a film. When Ashutosh kept justifying the shuffling of the release date, one thought it was all humbug. But on viewing the film, you are more than convinced that a film of such magnitude indeed requires a lot of courage and patience to firstly shoot it and then edit and compile the various scenes.

It is so obvious on screen the amount of effort put in and the care taken to craft a film such as this. Just observe the casting of the film, besides the prime faces we know of, Ashu brings to you such tremendous talent that fits the bill even with their slightest of roles in the film. For example, take a look at the Villain in the film-Niketan Dheer, he is much taller and built than Hrithik which makes it so believable in the fight sequences that Hrithik is bound to fall when he collides against him. Also take a look at the various kings, the common men depicted in the film, the warriors etc. It’s just apt.

On the performance graph, no one could have possibly played Akbar with such elegance as Hrithik. Hrithik is simply fabulous. It’s not just his body and looks that impress but it is the way Hrithik carries himself throughout the film. He impresses in almost every sequence. Watch out for Hrithik’s duel with the elephant, his sword fight with Aishwariya , his dialogue delivery and expressiveness when he is betrayed by his step-brother. Also the climax fight sequence has some great dialogue delivery from Hrithik.

Aishwariya stands perfect as Jodhaa. Many would state that after Hum Dil Chuke Sanam , Ash is simply at her best in Jodhaa-Akbar. The sequence where she sets her demands before Akbar are impressive. She emotes well in sequences where she is humiliated by Akbar’s step mother played by Ila Arun. She also does well in bringing out that romance and is smooth with the sword sequences.

Sonu Sood is yet another character to watch out for as he portrays Sujamal, Jodhaa’s step-brother with ease. He impresses with both his dialogue delivery and sword handling. Poonam Sinha returns with a terrific guest appearance. Ila Arun freaks you out and watch out for her dialogue delivery with Ash as she expresses how possessive she is of her son Akbar. Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Raza Murad and Rajesh Vivek are all so apt and add to this epic.

Defintely the credit for this magnum opus goes to Ashutosh whose dares to dream big. But, without a skillfull team of technicians this would still be just a dream. Firstly, A.R.Rehman’s music is simply soulful and the right mix for a film such as this. The songs just grow on you and the background score is simply terrific. On leaving the theatre you are sure to hum either the ‘Jashne Bahar’ or ‘Azeem-o-Shaan Shehanshah’ track. The choregraphy and picturisation of ‘Azeem-o-Shaan Shehanshah’ is splendid.The song that was shot in 12 days is rich in colour , choreography, camera movments- you name it, it carries all. It’s been a while since the Indian Audiences have ever seen something like this.

Kiiran Deohans brings in topnotch cinematography. You are simply floored by the way the camera tracks out from low below the horse’s legs and various other sequences show you simply how brilliant the D.O.P is. Take a look at even simple sequences where Ash’s brings in a curtain to separate Hrithik from her and the conversation between the two is shot with great style.

Haider Ali teams up with Ashu to bring a screenplay that is highly researched, interesting and very impressive. The length of the film is indeed 3hrs 20 mins but , Haider and Ashu can’t be fully blamed for it.Haider does a cameo in the film , he is seen in the ‘Khwaja Mere Khwaja’ track. K.P.Saxena’s dialogues are terrific. They are simple and carry the aura that an epic such as this requires. Take a look at the dialogue when Akbar takes on Jodhaa in a swordfight .The costumes by Neeta Lulla are so rich , apt and terrific. The costumes just make the characters stand out.

To sum it up Ashutosh has taken great care and pain in bringing us an epic. Even the animals in the film have been dealt with great care and surprisingly you don’t have a single scene where horses are made to fall , elephants rolling etc unlike those done in epics before. Ashu simply proves that he is a master of crowd sequences right from Lagaan to Jodhaa-Akbar, just take a look at the number of people that fill the screen.

The only drawback of the film is it’s heavy length which can’t really be dealt with as Ashu attempts to compress years of history and bring it to the masses in just 3hrs 20 Mins. Kudos Ashu!

Clicking on AVI files in Windows Explorer causes high CPU usage

Well windows seem to have a REALLY big problem when it comes to reading AVI files. It seems that when you click on an AVI file in explorer, it’ll try to read the entire AVI file to determine the width,height, etc. of the AVI file (this is displayed in the Properties window). Now the problem with Windows is that if you have a broken/not fully downloaded AVI file that doesnt contain this info, Windows will scan the entire AVI file trying to figure out all these properties which in the process will probably cause 100% CPU usage and heavy memory usage. To solve this problem all you have to do is the following:

1. Open up regedit
2. Goto HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.avi\shellex\PropertyHandler
3. Delete the “Default” value which should be “{87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}”

Voila! Please not that this will no longer provide you with the windows properties displaying the AVI file information such as width, height, bitrate etc. But its a small price to pay for saving you resources.
NOTE: Please use caution when using regedit. Improper usage may cause windows to behave imcorrectly. Also, I cannot be held resposible. Backup your registry first.

Well that can't be a coincidence .. five undersea Internet cables have been cut or disabled over the past week or so. These are SeaMeWe-4 (South East Asia-Middle East-Western Europe-4) near Penang, Malaysia, the FLAG Europe-Asia near Alexandria, FLAG near the Dubai coast, FALCON near Bandar Abbas in Iran and SeaMeWe-4, also near Alexandria. The first cut in the undersea Internet cable occurred on January 23, in the Flag Telcoms FALCON submarine cable which was not reported. This has not been repaired yet and the cause remains unknown, explained Jaishanker.

A major cut affecting the UAE occurred on January 30 in the SeaMeWe-4 (South East Asia-Middle East-Western Europe-4). "This was followed by another cut on February 1 which was on the same cable (FALCON). This affected the du network majorly as connections from the Gulf were severed while there was limited connectivity within the region," said Khaled Tabbara, executive director, Carrier Relations, du. He explained that the network was re-routed through Al Khobar in Saudi Arabia and was near normal now. Almost 90 per cent of Internet traffic is routed through undersea cables and only 10 per cent is done through the satellite. The experts also suggested that the cause of damage could have been a ship's anchor that was dragging due to inclement weather conditions in the region during that particular period.

This has to be intentional. C'mon, aside from the RIAA hiring a seamonster to cut off music pirates in Iran, what are the odds that this is all random?

Actor Kunal who shot to fame throughout the country with his debut film ‘Kadhlar Dinam’ directed by Kathir passes away. He was found dead early this morning at his flat in Andheri, Mumbai.

The desolate actor committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan in the wee hours of Thursday (February 7). Our sources say that the actor was undergoing a spell of depression for the last few days, though the reason for the same is unknown.

Kunal’s friend, Laveena, was reportedly present when the incident took place. She however, claimed not to have witnessed anything as she had gone to the bathroom. His wife Anu was not present at the spot, as she was visiting her parents in Ahmednagar.

Kunal, who is basically a north Indian has done about a dozen films in Tamil. It is ironic that most of the titles of his films had romantic names like ‘Varsham Ellam Vasantham’, ‘Unnarchigal’ and ‘Paarvai Onre Pothumey’. Kunal’s last film was ‘Nanbanin Kathali’.

It is sheer coincidence that the heroine of the film ‘Paarvai Onre Pothumey’ Monal too had committed suicide.

Kunal will be remembered for the A.R. Rahman music of his debut film ‘Kathalar Dhinam’. The melancholic Rojaa, Rojaa… and the melodious Daandiya Aatumadam… picturised on Kunal and the strikingly beautiful Sonali Bendre will hardly be forgotten by the people of Tamil Nadu.

The actor is survived by his wife, two children, and his father who is a colonel with the Army.

I first heard of this guy called Benny Dayal at Saarang '06,when he was a member of MCC's light music fivesome.I still remember the crowds going ga-ga when he shouted "Dil Se re.."Then I came to know that he was a singer in a band by name "S5",a fivesome who had cut an album called Isai.There's a song in this album I'd like you to listen to(if you haven't already)-Malare,a song about nature set in a very melodious tune,with chords in the same genre as Christian hyms(that however,doesn't affect it any way).Having a Pop-Slow Rock feel for a skeleton,the song has an interesting harmony(I call it as "parts");there's even a particular progression I haven't heard so far.Here's the video of the song:

NASA beams Beatles' "Across the Universe" to aliens

An intergalactic celebration of The Beatles is launched on Monday with the beaming of their peace anthem "Across the Universe" into outer space.

The man behind the idea, which marks the 40th anniversary of the recording of the song in 1968, is an avid Beatles fan who has persuaded U.S. space agency NASA to kick off the party and now hopes to convert alien life forms to The Beatles.

"At the moment we are sending up Morse code as a way of contacting aliens," Martin Lewis told BBC radio. "Maybe we should send them something a little more cheery."

If all goes according to plan, NASA will transmit the Beatles tune via its deep space network at Midnight British time.

At exactly the same time, fans across the world are being asked to play "Across The Universe" in a bid to "create a harmonic convergence" around planet earth and throughout the universe.

According to a statement from NASA, the transmission will be aimed at the North Star, Polaris, which is 431 light years away from earth. The song will travel across the universe at a speed of 186,000 miles per second.

Former Beatle Paul McCartney, who beamed his first intergalactic concert to the International Space Station in 2005, congratulated NASA and asked them to pass on his regards to anyone else out there.

"Amazing! Well done, NASA!" he said in a statement released by the space agency. "Send my love to the aliens. All the best, Paul."

Dutch inventors unveiled Monday a 75,000 euro ($111,100) car-fuelling robot they say is the first of its kind, working by registering the car on arrival at the filling station and matching it to a database of fuel cap designs and fuel types.

A robotic arm fitted with multiple sensors extends from a regular petrol pump, carefully opens the car's flap, unscrews the cap, picks up the fuel nozzle and directs it toward the tank opening, much as a human arm would, and as efficiently.

"I was on a farm and I saw a robotic arm milking a cow. If a robot can do that then why can't it fill a car tank, I thought," said developer and petrol station operator Nico van Staveren. "Drivers needn't get dirty hands or smell of petrol again."

He hopes to introduce the "Tankpitstop" robot in a handful of Dutch stations by the end of the year. It works for any car whose tank can be opened without a key, and whose contours and dimensions have been recorded to avoid scratching.
Asked whether he would trust his car to a robotic garage attendant, Jelger De Kroon, fillinghis black Alfa Romeo at a nearby petrol station, said: "Why not? I guess I could keep my hands free and clean, but I'd hope they have good insurance."

RIAA PWNED!!

Apparently the RIAA is so busy suing consumers that they forgot to hire a decent programmer. With a simple SQL injection, all their propaganda has been successfully wiped from the site.

It started out on Reddit, where a link to a really slow SQL query was posted. While the Reddit users were trying to kill the RIAA server, someone allegedly decided to up the ante and wipe the site’s entire database.

The comments on Reddit are only speculation so far. Based on the username, which was apparently “webReadOnly”, it might not have been setup correctly, or someone could have found another way to delete the content form the site.

Another possibility is that the RIAA themselves removed the content temporarily. This would seem unlikely, as a better solution would be to take it entirely offline to fix the bigger problem. While they could fix a small vulnerability like this in a matter of seconds, the chances are it’s not an isolated problem.

As pointed out by Haywire, playing around with the urls a bit can return some funny results. It is pretty easy to make the RIAA link to The Pirate Bay for example.

For now it sure does look like all the content has been wiped from the RIAA homepage. Let’s hope they have backups, or not.

PS3 dies after yellow light of death

Someone going by the name foxracingnumba26 claims his PS3 failed on him indicated by yellow light followed by blinking red, and posted a video to prove it.

In the video below, you'll see the console fail a few seconds after it was turned on. As foxracingnumba26 described on his post at Gametrailers, the green light that shows your PS3 is up and running turns yellow before going red. The unfortunate console owner thus dubbed it the "yellow light of death," taking cues from the Xbox 360's famed red lights of death (aka RROD).

The problem persists even if he tries to repeatedly turn the machine on, so he supposedly told Sony about it. As of now, foxracingnumba26 said he's willing to show further proof in form of pictures to let everyone know that Sony acknowledged the problem and wants the PS3 back. Disable Access to USB Mass Storage Drive

This hack will disable access to the usb flash drive
also known as usb mas storage drive ( also usb hard
disks but not sure as I don't have one).

Goto start > run > and type in regedit and press enter.
This will open registry editor window. Now go to the
following key:

Right click on the key and select export and save a backup copy in case
anything goes wrong. Now on the right pan of the regedit window double
click on the value called Start & set it value to 4 & click OK.

Will the third and final service pack for Windows XP manage to breath new life into the operating system? Will users and original equipment manufacturers be able to apply enough pressure on Microsoft to keep Windows XP alive? There is even an online petition available to save Windows XP. Anything but to move to
Windows Vista. Yes, by all means. Save Windows XP. But from what? Is XP even in need of saving?

Last I checked, Windows XP still accounts for the lion's share of the operating system market. All other platforms, including Windows Vista, don't even manage to come close to it. And growing on the operating system market means actually eroding XP's audience, because there is little elbow room with this ubiquitous platform having dug its roots in deep starting back in 2001. According to Net Applications, XP is credited with 76.91%, while after almost a year since it hit the shelves, Vista has only gone as high as 10.48%. By comparison Mac OS X has a share of 7.31% and all the Linux distributions just 0.63%.

Microsoft is currently developing XP SP3, having already made available for download a standalone version of the public Release Candidate in December 2006. The company points to the first half of this year for the delivery of XP SP3, and while the long overdue service pack will indeed breath new life into the platform it will not save Windows XP either.

On June 30, 2008, Microsoft has set the expiration date for the retail and OEM availability of XP. Vista's predecessor will still be available via system builders until 2009. Bheema became one of the longest awaited Tamil movies of recent times not just for the hype it created but also for the time it took, from completion to release. And when a movie is usually this delayed, the hype and hoopla surrounding it fizzles out, but Bheema only became bigger with expectations rising with each passing day. There are several reasons for this: One, this is Vikram’s first movie after two years. Two, Vikram and Trisha pair up for the first time since the extremely successful Saami. Three, Bheema is Lingusamy’s follow-up to the stupendously successful Sandakozhi. And four, Harris Jeyaraj’s soulful songs. But here’s the lowdown: in spite of all the above reasons, the movie doesn’t quite live up to its colossal hype.
In Bheema, Vikram plays a man who has, since childhood, idolized Prakashraj, a gangster with a heart of gold. Vikram grows up to become a no-nonsense, street smart, powerful young man. Impressed with his courage, Prakashraj embraces him, inducting him into the gang. And with Vikram as his right hand man, Prakashraj gradually becomes the godfather of the city. He even outrivals his archrival, Raguvaran. Filled with rage, Raghuvaran and his two sons attempt to kill Prakashraj and take back the city. But with Vikram by his side they are unable to touch the newly crowned godfather. Meanwhile, Vikram falls in love with Trisha, and he becomes so lost in love that he loses focus and concentration on the job, nearly threatening the life of his idol. Vikram is now forced to choose between work and love. What Vikram will choose forms the rest of this tale.

On some level Bheema bears a striking resemblance to Maniratnam’s Dalapathy. As director, Lingusamy succeeds in provoking riveting performances from all the actors, but as scriptwriter he’s not as successful in keeping us involved. From the first reel to the last reel Bheema is packed with the sound of gunfire and fisticuffs – the wirework and action scenes are stunning but as the movie winds down, the relentless violence gets to you. The first half is full of incident but the pace slackens in the second half, no thanks to some inappropriate song placement that spoils the fun. Bheema is full of style but little substance. As in all our masala entertainers, logic takes a back seat. A gravity-defying stunt in a shopping mall restroom is close to being preposterous. However, when Bheema is not about gunfire and fisticuffs, Linguswamy handles several scenes deftly. The scene where a very drunk Vikram spoils a birthday party and talks back to the police commissioner is unforgettable for Vikram’s magnificent acting and some well penned dialogues.

Prakashraj, as always, comes up with a topnotch performance. His role is well etched and this versatile actor makes the most out of it. Vikram once again stuns us with his subtle body language, incendiary acting and skillful dialogue delivery. Trisha’s role is bubbly and this talented heroine makes the most of it, looking cute all through the film and ravishing in the song sequences. Raghuvaran delivers that slick, sly villain he is so well know for. Thalaivasal Vijay is competent, reminding you of the Iyer role Delhi Ganesh played so well in Nayagan. As the police commissioner, Aashish Vidyarthi is superb.

Technically, Bheema is brilliant. RD Rajasekhar’s cinematography is a treat for the eyes, especially the Mudhal Mazhai song, which is shot ravishingly. His camera work here is certain to win him laurels. Anthony’s editing is terrific except in a few places where it is not always seamless. The stunts by Kanal Kannan will be a major draw, particularly the fight sequence in the market place where slow motion is used to great effect.

Ahmed Khan’s choreography is understated and tasteful. Harris Jeyaraj’s music, of course, is very good. Unfortunately, some of his songs are inappropriately placed in the film, taking away some of the luster. However, “Oru Mugamo” and “Ragasiya Kanavugal” are memorable numbers that are also shot beautifully. For pure lovers of action, Bheema might just be the Pongal movie they are looking for, but those expecting an action movie with a strong story will be disappointed.

Ever since I listened to the numbers from En Suvasakatre in my standard 8,I became a crazy fan of ARR.Like all die hard Rahmaniacs do,I did some research on thala,read his biography and listened to all his numbers.Until very recently I was under the impression that his first composition was a jingle(aka an advertisement).I was wrong however;seems he first composed when he was a mere child at the age of 11! Moreover,this composition has appeared in a Malayalam film called Penpada(1975).

Here is an excerpt from an ARR forum:

On April 2006, on a music program in "Amrutha TV", Baranikkavu Shivakumar was the guest. He is the one who written the songs for the film "Penpada"(1975). He started to sing "vellithen kinnam pol" and declared its ARR's tune.

When he was working for that film, the music director was R.K.Shekhar(ARR's father). Totally 4 song to compose. He composed 3 song and take a break. That time six year old ARR came and play some music bits in Harmonium. All are surprised and ask him to do the full song. Everyone like it and decided to use it as the movie's soundtrack. Its titled "Vellithen Kinnam Pol" and sung by Jayachandran. Whole orchestra is done by his father RK Shekar but the basic tune is Rahman's.

When ARR came to trivandrum (Kerala) for Kairali-Swaralaya award, KJ.Yesudas confirmed this story and sang this song on stage!

As with all other ARR songs,I liked it,though with a slight sense of doubt that ARR may not have composed it at all;that doubt vanished when I became addicted to the song after hearing it 4 times.I believe ARR was the first to brew the Slow Poison-a poison without an antidote!!!

Browsing through a technical blog,I came across an interesting piece of info:a pair of earphones can be used as a crude microphone.Naturally,I was tempted to criticise the author;earphones are supposed to be output devices-they're not meant for input! Nevertheless,I went on to give it a try.The author was indeed correct,they can be used as a mic,though far from the true sense of the word.Don't expect the makeshift mic to have the efficiency of that of one in a recording studio.There is not much difference between the circuits of a Microphone and a Headphone , just the headphone is designed to spread voice and an microphone to capture the voice !It works on Magnetic Reversal Property which converts vibrations into electronic signals . I have tried this on yahoo chat and it works .

So if you connect the headphone in the microphone slot of your computer, you could use it as a microphone.
Just speak in the ear buds of the microphone, but please speak a bit loudly to be audible at the other end !

Notice, that it will be likely that only one of the two earphones will be a capable carrier of the your voice, for a number of technical reasons.

To find out if your headset works as a mike and to check which ones of the two earphones is the one to talk into perform a simple test while connected online with a friend through Skype or other voice-enabled application.

Talk into one of the earphones saying "ear one, ear one ...." and do the same in the other one saying something like "ear two, ear teo, ...". Ask now your friend when she could hear you better and in most cases you will find out that the right ear is the on that does the job right.

Far from being a professional microphone replacement, this solution is good enough for any emergency situation in which you suddenly do not have access to a needed microphone, while you have available a spare traditional headset / earphones set.

Everyone in the film industry aims for an Oscar. For actor Kamal Hassan, his latest project may just take him a step closer to the award. How? He has roped in Walt Disney as the producers for his next film.

Dream project

This film also happens to be the actor’s dream project and is called Marma Yoghi.
This big budget film could not do with just one producer, so now there is a co-producer — Bharat Bala of AR Rahman’s Vande Mataram fame. Thanks to Bharat, this film will also see Kamal Hassan and AR Rahman coming together for the first time.

International producer

Walt Disney Productions has recently tied up with Yashraj films and will be producing a film called Roadside Romeo for them shortly.

Fortunately for Kamal, the production house wants to spread its wings across the country too. The actor will be in the US to discuss production details for this film that will be shot in Thailand. Kamal plans to start shooting for this film in February.

Shooting up

Marma Yoghi is to be a historical story, set in the seventh century. The film is also touted to become the most expensive film in India.

A source says, “Kamal has budgeted this film at approximately 120 crores and as we all know, a film is never made within a quoted budget. It is bound to be the most expensive film ever made in our country.”

With remaking being the trend of late, it is not surprising that Kamal’s dream project too is another remake. The original Marma Yoghi was released in 1951 and starred legends MGR and Anjali Devi. The story is based on the novel Vendetta: The story of one forgotten, in the year 1886 by Marie Corelli.

Kamal’s Marma Yoghi will feature three heroines and rumours are that Kamal has zeroed in on two of them — Asin and Hema Malini, both of whom have acted with him before.

The best CPU heatsink is useless, if the air around it is too hot. The hot air obviously needs to be evacuated from the case. All computer cases come with a fan preinstalled in the power supply; if this fan isn't sufficient, you need to install an additional fan. The size of fan depends on the size of the fan bays in your case; if you have multiple fan bays, larger is better - bigger fans have a better ratio between air flow and noise. Where the fan is located, and in which direction it should blow, depends on your particular case - read below for some basic rules.

Should an additional fan blow in or out? Where should I install it?

This, as said above, depends on your case. Usually, depending on your case, there are two possiblilities for installing the fan: Either near the power supply on the back (either above, or below the power supply, right behind the CPU), or on the lower part of the front side.

If the second fan you install is located close to the first fan (e.g. you install the second fan above the power supply), then it must be installed in a way that it blows in the same direction as the first fan. If two fans installed next to each other will blow in opposite directions, they will create a "air short circuit", and adding a second fan might even decrease overall airflow.

If the second fan is installed at the opposite side of the case, then it should blow in the opposite direction of the PS fan. E.g. it the PS fan exhausts air, the second fan installed in the lower front part of the case should blow in. If both fans are sucking air out, then they would both try to create a vacuum inside the case, and there would be no real air flow.

Another thing that should be mentionned is that if there are aeration holes in your case right next to the secondary fan, then it can sometimes be helpful to close these holes (for example using duct tape), because otherwise you'll also have a small "air flow short circuit".

These suggestions might seem a bit trivial to you. However, I've seen many incorrectly installed fans, so these tips might still be useful. The basic rule when installing fans is - as always - "use common sense".

The combo of KB, Rajini and Vasu

Before starting the mega project ‘Robot’ with Shankar, superstar Rajinikanth might do a film for his mentor K. Balachander. The film, a remake of Malayalam super hit ‘Katha Parayumbol’ is said to be directed by P Vasu, inform reliable sources.

Panju Arunachalam, who had produced many Rajini films in his earlier days, might be roped in as a joint producer of the venture.

The original movie, released during 2007 Deepavali, had Mammootty in the lead role. The emotional story value and the outstanding performances by Sreenivasan and Mammootty made the film a super hit.

Last week Sreenivasan, who was the writer and co-producer of the story, held a special screening of the film for Rajinikanth in Chennai. Rajini is said to be impressed with the movie.

The film will be a blithesome sentimental comedy. The story revolves around a deep friendship between a barber in a village and a superstar who comes there to shoot a film.

Pasupathy might do the role of the barber, while Rajini will play the superstar. Vidyasagar would handle the music.

Since Rajini wants to bring out the film as soon as possible, the shooting might start immediately. The film might hit the screens by July, after which the mega project ‘Robot’ would be started.

It is worth recalling that Prakash Raj and Prithviraj starrer ‘Vellithirai’ too is a remake of Sreenivasan’s ‘Udayananu Tharam’.

Why anyone would be clamouring for a fourth Terminator movie after the disappointing Terminator 3 – Rise of the Machines is a bit of a mystery. Just shows you mankind’s proclivity for unwarranted optimism I suppose . . .

Not even the money people would want another Terminator movie: the last one was so hugely expensive to make because of the legal fees involved to secure the rights as well as a salary large enough to buy a small country to entice the current governor of California back to the franchise that although the movie made oodles at the box office, it in fact barely recouped its costs.

It did however provide a massive salary for all the movie's key personnel though . . .

Anyway, it seems that director Jonathan Mostow who directed Terminator 3 has set aside some time in his schedule to direct this fourth installment. It doesn’t seem as if director James Cameron who directed and wrote the first two brilliant Terminator movies would be involved in any way . . . and neither are the two young stars of Terminator 3 either: Claire Danes and Nick Stahl haven’t been signed on?

And Arnie? Apparently they’re in discussions for him to appear in a small role in the upcoming movie. Can anyone else be the Terminator? Who knows? The Rock said he could be . . . and say what you will at least The Rock won’t be getting pensioner’s discount on the buses anytime soon . . .

The plot? Apparently the already finished script by John D. Brancato and Michael Ferris (who both did Terminator 3) skips ahead several years into the future from the ending of Terminator 3 and features a much older John Connor leading the rebellion of humans against the machines.
